Ludlam threatens bedlam for Bibi as Left protests first visit to Oz

Ludlam likes to bag Israel at every opportunity, but Palestine? Yeah, nah.

The PM welcomed his Israeli counterpart with a big op-ed in The Australian, yesterday:

Our friendship is as old as the state of Israel itself. Australia was the first country to vote in favour of the 1947 UN partition resolution adopted by the General Assembly, which led to the establishment of Israel in 1948 ...

The key role Australia played in ensuring the security and prosperity of the Jewish people should be a source of pride for us all.

This week our friendship will take a historic step forward. For the first time, a serving Israeli prime minister will visit Australia. The government is honoured to host Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Greens senator Scott Ludlam didn’t like it. Facebook, yesterday:

Excruciating suckholery. End the occupation.

Scott Ludlam ... doesn’t like Israel ... really ... not at all ... Twitter, Monday:

(Palestinian flag emoji) A picture of a West Bank Settlement with the word “ILLEGAL” on it.

And Netanyahu? Oh boy, not a fan. The Guardian Australia, Tuesday:

Mr Netanyahu should be aware that he will be met with demonstrations on the streets of Australia’s cities, not embraces.

Ludlam backed sanctions against Israel. The Australian, April 7, 2011:

It’s time for an arms embargo ... If Israel chooses to behave like a rogue state, then it’s going to be treated as one.

What was happening in Israel in June 2010? Yvet News, June 24, 2010:

Rockets continue to fall on Gaza-vicinity communities. A Qassam rocket exploded near a kibbutz north of the Gaza Strip Thursday evening, shortly after two mortar shells exploded south of a kibbutz in Shaar Hanegev Regional Council.

A total of eight mortar shells and one rocket were fired at Israel on Thursday, causing no injury or damage.

And this. Yvet News, June 3, 2010:

One rocket was fired at Sderot Thursday evening prompting the Color Red alert to go off. The Qassam apparently exploded in an open area near the town.

Earlier in the evening, two rockets landed near the southern city of Ashkelon, while another rocket landed in the Ashkelon Beach region, near a kibbutz.

Ludlam’s mum on Palestinian aggression. Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council, June 27, 2016:

... the Greens have never issued a condemnation of an act of Palestinian violence or terrorism on its own. In contrast, Greens Foreign Policy spokesman Sen. Scott Ludlam has made six statements on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict since July 2015, all of them including condemnations of Israel.

But he welcomes the support of Labor elders on Palestine. Kind of. Ludlam’s Facebook page, Tuesday:

It is all very well for retired Labor figures to have an attack of conscience after they’ve left office ...

Bibi has a query for Bob Hawke and Kevin Rudd. Sydney, yesterday:

What kind of (Palestinian) state will it be that they’re advocating? A state that calls for Israel’s destruction? A state whose territory will be used immediately for radical Islam?

At least Turnbull’s clued in. The Australian, yesterday:

Israel is a miraculous nation. It has flourished despite invasion, conflict and an almost complete lack of natural resources, other than the determination and genius of its people. And yet in a region racked by war, it succeeds as the sole liberal democracy ...
