Kristina Keneally writes for Guardian Australia, Tuesday:

Let’s call child sexual abuse in the church what it is: Catholic extremism.

Yep, you read that right. The former NSW premier continues:

The Australian victims of sexual abuse have been terrorised by the Catholic Church, no doubt. Is it “radical Catholic ideology” or “extremist Catholic belief” to cover up the sin of sexual abuse for “the greater good”?

“Catholic” extremism? The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse has tackled abuse in the Anglican Church. The Australian, February 14:

Networks of pedophiles operated in the Church of England Boys’ Society for several decades, some “sharing” victims, while the church’s only formal response was to revoke awards given to several perpetrators …

And the Salvation Army. The Australian, April 27:

Three of the Salvation Army’s most senior commanders are closely related to men who have been accused of, charged with or convicted of sexual offences …

And the Jewish community. The Australian, November 30 last year:

Children abused within ultra-Orthodox Jewish communities in Sydney and Melbourne were failed by religious leaders …

Keneally says she’s just backing Tony Abbott’s stance on Islamist terror. Guardian Australia, continued:

Former prime minister Tony Abbott led a chorus of voices last week demanding that political leaders define recent deadly terrorist attacks as Islamic.

But terrorists seem to identify with the one religion, unlike child abusers. The Australian’s front page after the London Bridge attack, June 5:

“This is for Allah”

But Keneally’s worst point is this … Guardian Australia, Tuesday:

… the label “institutional sexual abuse” is too bland to confront us …

A lot of people found the term institutional sexual abuse confronting enough. Graham Richardson in The Australian, September 5, 2014:

When (Julia) Gillard announced a royal commission into child abuse there were many in the churches and the charities who had cause to feel the ruffle on the hairs of the back of their necks. Most important, it gave an opportunity to the thousands mentioned above to finally tell their stories.

And The New York Times really hates Sydney, yesterday:

When I arrived here in April to check out this city’s recent crop of chefs, I knew I wasn’t at the centre of the culinary universe.

Despite all the fanfare that greeted its arrival Down Under … The recently retired Mark Day writing in The Australian, January 31:

The decision to spend part of a $US50 million ($66.2m) budget … is part of a long-term NYT drive to sign up 10 million subscribers worldwide.

The Gray Lady thinks the best way to get Sydney subscribers is to insult them … writer Pete Wells in The New York Times, Monday:

This is a city in love with the idea that it punches above its weight. But it remains better known for light shows … than for great art.

We think Aussies are going to say “Thanks, but no thanks” to the rude Yanks at The New York Times. Day in The Australian, January 31:

I welcome the NYT to Australia … I suspect its impact will be slight …
