It’s The Three Stooges as Bishop, Dutton and Morrison fight to lead party

Malcolm Turnbull's triple threat ... (from left) Peter Dutton, Scott Morrison and Julie Bishop.
Malcolm Turnbull's triple threat ... (from left) Peter Dutton, Scott Morrison and Julie Bishop.

A ringing endorsement for Malcolm Turnbull from the Immigration Minister. Peter Dutton on Sydney radio station 2GB, yesterday:

I argue with the Prime Minister, he argues with me behind the scenes …

Just not as much as he argues with Scott Morrison and Julie Bishop? James Campbell writes for the Herald Sun, yesterday:

In (Scott) Morrison’s case, there is no secret that he and Immigration Minister Peter Dutton loathe each other. Dutton can’t stand (Julie) Bishop either.

Back to Dutton just saying how much he loves the Prime Minister. 2GB, yesterday:

I support him 100 per cent because I believe Bill Shorten would be a disaster for this country.

He likes him because he really hates the other guy. That’s a warm appraisal. Ancient proverb:

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

By the way, Dutton thinks he knows who leaked cabinet discussions about a banking royal commission. 2GB, yesterday:

I would have a gut feeling as to those sort of matters …

Just a reminder about who Dutton’s biggest enemy in cabinet is. Peter van Onselen writes for The Australian online, yesterday:

Bishop has become a popular alternative leader … But her ever present feuds with Dutton and (Mathias) Cormann make it unlikely she could garner cross-party numbers.

Bishop says she’s not the guilty party. The Foreign Minister’s comments on Sky News, yesterday:

It is not me … I would support a formal investigation into the leak.

Bishop’s channelling a certain Jamaican-American musician. Shaggy’s hit single, September 11, 2000:

It wasn’t me / It wasn’t me / It wasn’t me / It wasn’t me / It wasn’t me

Don’t leave out Morrison. He also didn’t leak cabinet discussions. The Treasurer in Sydney, yesterday:

Journalist: Julie Bishop is calling for a formal investigation into cabinet leaks. Do you support this?

Morrison: I think it’s incredibly important that these issues are resolved and that’s a matter I’m sure the Prime Minister has well in hand.

And he is definitely, absolutely not after anyone’s vote in a future Liberal leadership spill. Morrison on Melbourne’s 3AW, Wednesday:

Tom Elliott: I know that more conservative members of the party like you are concerned to enshrine religious protection in the (same-sex marriage) bill. Is that going to happen?

Morrison: That’s what I’m going to work towards … that’s certainly what I’m going to be arguing for.

He’s just a nice guy standing up for backbenchers. Aren’t you, Scott? The Treasurer on 3AW, continued:

Elliott: What I find odd, Mr Morrison, is you know, everybody knows that you’re struggling in the opinion polls.

Morrison: You sound very formal. You should call me Scott …

Elliott: You’ve never said call me Scott so now I will. Scott …

Morrison: Please do.

Elliott: Scott, can I tell you that you’re struggling in the opinion polls …

A rubbish Liberal prime minister and three rubbish pretenders. Do you remember when John Howard led this party? The Mocker writes for The Australian online, yesterday:

What could the troupe of Howard’s successors — who range from the mediocre to the outright incompetent — have learned from him, but failed to do so?
