Even before graduating from pre-Senate school, Jacqui Lambie strikes gold
SHE flips, she flops, she smacks down the PM - Tasmania’s yappy PUP is cooking with hydro.
Lambie tells ABC Radio National there’s a shared brain between her and Clive Palmer, yesterday:
WE pretty much think the same.
What does Clive want to do with the RET? After an event with Al Gore, The Australian, June 26:
MR Palmer said the PUP would vote against any change to the Renewable Energy Target — designed to ensure 20 per cent of energy is from renewable sources by 2020 — before 2016.
But what about Tassie? The Australian, Monday:
MS Lambie, who will take her seat in the Senate next week, warned she would seek exemptions from the RET for businesses in her home state.
Say what? The Australian, Monday:
MS Lambie said she had already sought the support of her colleagues for Tasmania to be treated as a “special economic zone’’ in recognition of the state’s lagging growth and employment problems. Asked if operations such as Rio Tinto’s struggling Bell Bay aluminium smelter in the state’s north should be exempted from the RET, she said: “Yes, that’s what I will be asking under the special economic zone. That is correct.”
Not really. Lambie issues a clarifying media statement on Tuesday:
THERE are some ignorant media commentators who have said that I want to change the current National RET target before 2016. Nothing could be further from the truth. I’m a great supporter of Renewable Energy, in fact all Tasmanian’s (sic) are.
Same but different. And a little bit of stick. More Lambie:
WE can have a National Renewable Energy Target — but we must make the Australian states who have failed in the past to invest in sustainable, reliable renewable energy — pay their fair share of the costs.
Back to Radio National. Lambie pinpoints her dislike of Tony Abbott, who parades his daughters on TV:
I JUST thought, “is your political career more important than your own daughters’ security?” I think, being ex-military, that was the last straw for me.
So watch out, Tony, no more avoiding this PUP. ABC1 News, Tuesday:
WE’RE all going to be in the same building now so there’s no more avoiding Jacqui Lambie full stop!
Thank you for smoking! AFR’s Neil Chenoweth tweets, Wednesday:
HOW close is Rupert Murdoch to Big Tobacco? News Corp’s first corporate flak in 98 was RJ Reynolds tobacco lobbyist Tom Griscom.
Hmmm. More spooky Neil tweets:
MY 1998 file note: Rupert Murdoch sold his Philip Morris stock for $4.5m to pay Cruden debt (excluding it from divorce negotiations w/ Anna).
Or Fox News’s Roger Ailes? AFR’s “Smoking Gun” Neil, July 2, 2011:
(AILES) applied his skills to electing Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan in his second term when Reagan’s son said he was suffering from early symptoms of Alzheimer’s, and George Bush senior — plus some sterling work for Big Tobacco defeating Bill Clinton’s health care plan.
When there’s no smoke, follow the lollipops. Chenoweth’s Rupert Murdoch: The Untold Story of the World’s Greatest Media Wizard (2001):
WHEN the storm broke in the newsroom of the New York Post in midtown, the staff broke into the defensive huddles that mark a newspaper where the editor has just proven mortal. There had been no warning of what was coming. On Monday, April 23, 2001, just before five p.m., as the paper was gearing up for the serious business of getting an edition out for the next day, the publisher, Ken Chandler, called the staff around him. Xana Antunes, their Scottish-Portuguese editor, was with him, sucking the pink lollipop that was her trademark since she quit smoking. It came out whenever she was under stress.
