Climate bores seek converts at Christmas

Family sick of climate cult? Simon Black, The Guardian December 12:

Climate marches … bushfires, the Adani coalmine. … Global warming … is a conversation that’s going to be hard to avoid this Christmas. … The UN released a handbook for talking about (it) … Tell your family about … US and Australian firefighting efforts that … are moving towards a “year round” fire season. … Tell them about the bleaching of the Great Barrier Reef … Tell them about … Kiribati … being threatened by … rising sea levels … If you need something festive perhaps mention that summer heatwaves have destroyed one third of the Christmas tree crops in the UK … Chances are you’re not going to meet outright deniers . … The problem is urgency … Talk about the droughts across Australia. The fires in Queensland and California … If all fails (try (non-violent communication which) … is used by everyone … even (in) hostage negotiations … Conversations can degenerate to yelling matches … (so) if someone tells you they are sick of the “climate change cult” and “lying scientists”, ask … (if they) would be willing to … read a first-person piece from a firefighter.

Read a piece by this firefighter? ABC News, November 24:

Former prime minister Tony Abbott … and his Davidson Brigade were among 268 firefighters working (in the Hunter region) to protect homes.

How green is my private jet? Michael Bastasch, The Daily Caller, December 11:

The Daily Caller News Foundation asked 31 businesses, foundations and individuals agitating for climate action if they’d support banning private jets. Most didn’t respond, including representatives for Al Gore, the father of global warming activism. The UN is calling for trillions to meet the Paris climate accord’s goals, so what’s a few thousand private jets?

The Guardian considers another way to ruin Christmas. Gary Sacks, The Guardian, December 12:

We don’t often equate the kilojoules we drink in our glass of wine or pint of beer with the weight that accumulates around our middle. But our new study shows increasing the price of alcohol is the foremost value-for-money policy option to prevent obesity in Australia.

The schools are alive with political correctness. Ben Chapman, New York Daily News, December 6:

The hills are alive … with the sound of political correctness. Nazi props were temporarily declared verboten in LaGuardia High School’s production of … The Sound of Music prior to the show’s Thursday night opening. The principal at the elite “Fame” school, Lisa Mars, ordered Nazi flags and symbols removed from the stage set … “This is a very liberal school, we’re all against Nazis,” one sophomore performer … (said) about the fuhrer furore. “But to take out the symbol is to try to erase history” … (A senior said) “it would have been better to explain the symbolism than to just take it away”. Another student (said) the decision was abrupt and unjustified … “All of a sudden she came down and said we can’t rehearse with them any more,” the high school junior said.

The school that political correctness forgot? Christopher Harris, The Daily Telegraph, December 12:

Parents at (Nowra High School) have complained about … racist and sexist “awards” created by … students (for an end-of-year celebration). Students … sent (out) an online survey to nominate their peers in categories such as … “worst driver” … “best Asian” … “most likely to have a sugar daddy” … “most likely to live with mum at 30”, “first to be a parent” … “most likely to live off Centrelink”.
