Dial triple-O. Chip Le Grand, The Australian, November 13:

Mohammed Omran, the emir of the Hume Islamic Youth Centre close to Shire Ali’s Meadow Heights home, dismissed the “bloody Prime Minister’s’’ call for imams to do more to stop Islamic extremists, saying the greatest power he had was to dial triple-0 …

Dial K for Kufr. Mohammed Omran, Ahl Sunnah Wel Jemah TV, January 31, 2010:

I do want the battle to come here. I want the battle to stay between us and either the disobedient … or the … 100 per cent Kufr … and make them Muslims. That’s what is our mission. Here we are in Australia.

Kufr? Islam Question & Answer:

Kufr in … sharia terminology means “not believing in Allah and His Messenger”.

Dial M for Muslim military training. The Age, September 7, 2003:

Sheik Mohammed Omran … said Palestinian Abu Qatada, described as al-Qa’ida’s “top European operative” … is “a great friend of mine” from Amman … America was responsible for the September 11 attacks … He said he regarded America as “the enemy of the human race altogether” and Australia, in siding with the US, as “the tail of a cat, that’s all” … He said Jemaah Islamiah was a “made-up name”; the terrorist organisation did not exist. He had met … JI head Abu Bakar Bashir at the Preston mosque … and found him to be “a very peaceful man”. He defended the right of young Muslims to seek military-style training outside Australia as “part of our culture” and no more a threat than the army reserve … Sheik Omran said (of) the Ahlus-Sunnah wal Jamaah group that he heads … “We don’t have a membership … We have believers.”

Dial M for all just a misunderstanding. ABC, Lateline, July 25, 2005:

Tony Jones: Sheik Omran, is it true that you did say that Osama bin Laden was a good man …?

Sheik Omran: I said Osama bin Laden is a good man in a sense that I freed him of all these horrible actions …

Jones: … You appear not to believe … that Osama bin Laden is … responsible for September 11 …

Omran: … My philosophy is … to take him out of the action … you are trying to make all these actions belong to him and he looks as a hero … and I’m trying to say, “No, he didn’t do that, he’s nothing but a normal man”.

Jones: But he runs … al-Qa’ida … (which) has repeatedly committed savage terrorist acts …

Omran: … Don’t forget Tony … the West made Osama bin Laden what Osama bin Laden is …

Jones: But … Bin Laden took responsibility not only for September 11 but also for the attacks on the Australians in Bali.

Omran: I never heard that.

Wake up call, intelligence. Tammy Mills, The Age, November 10:

The terror attack in … Melbourne is a “wake-up call” for intelligence authorities, senior Australian Federal Police say … Shire Ali (came from Somalia and had links to Islamic State).

Maybe they missed the earlier ones? Editorial, The Age, April 14, 2007:

In recent years we have seen thousands of new migrants from Africa … about 10,000 are Somalis living in Melbourne … (Since 1991,) Somalia has … (been) plunged into lawlessness and warfare … (These refugees are) coming from a tribal structure of clans and sub-clans that were largely nomadic until recently … Yesterday … the leader of Sydney’s Somali community (warned) that young Somali men were being drawn in by supporters of terrorism in Somalia and might even be used for attacks in Australia.
