Live: ASX 200 ends down; Lew close to Myer board victory; Origin shares soar

Welcome to the Trading Day blog for Thursday, November 10. The ASX 200 is weaker. Billionaire Solomon Lew close to significant board victory. Sandfire taps South32 veteran as chief. Perpetual fires back at Pendal after rejecting Regal. Bitcoin falls amid building crypto storm.

The ASX 200 ends down 0.5 per cent to 6964.0.

On Wall Street, the S&P 500 fell 2.1 per cent, the technology-focused Nasdaq Composite Index sank 2.5 per cent and the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 2 per cent lower.

Facebook owner Meta’s 11,000 job cull and Tesla’s sell-off kept tech investors busy.  A key US inflation report due overnight, which could firm up US Federal Reserve's resolve on bigger rate rises, also weighed on sentiment.

US 10-year bond yields fell to 4.07 per cent and two-year yields also ended lower near 4.59 per cent.

Oil prices fell with the global benchmark Brent crude down 2.8 per cent to $US92.65 per barrel and US Nymex off 3.5 per cent to $US85.83 per barrel.

Gold futures price is off 0.1 per cent to $US1713.70 an ounce while iron ore futures lifted 2.6 per cent to $US87.51 per tonne.
