That's all from the Trading Day blog for Tuesday, March 18.  The ASX 200 index ends up 0.1 per cent to 7860.4 points, mostly erasing a 0.9 intraday gain as Middle East tensions flared.

On Wall Street, the S&P 500 and Dow Jones indexes rose nearly 1 per cent, respectively, and the technology-focused Nasdaq added 0.3 per cent.

Cryptocurrency giant bitcoin just above $US83,000.

The Aussie dollar is trading around US63.87c.
