Welcome to the Trading Day blog for Wednesday, July 2. The ASX 200 index closed 0.7 per cent higher to 8597.70 points with mining and property gains offsetting tech falls.
On Wall Street, investors had mixed feelings. The Dow Jones index rose 0.9 per cent on the passage of Trump's 'big beautiful' spending bill, while the S&P 500 fell 0.1 per cent and the Nasdaq dropped 0.8 per cent.
Cryptocurrency giant bitcoin was around $US107,000 at 5pm AEST.
The Aussie dollar was trading around US65.66c.
