That's all from the y, October 3. The ASX 200 index closed up 0.5 per cent at 8987.4 points after hitting a five=-week high of 8995.5 as US stock index futures add to bullish leads from Wall Street.
In the US, a global surge in chip stocks led a rally that ended up with the Dow industrials gaining 0.2 per cent, Nasdaq composite 0.4 per cent higher and S&P 500 up 0.1 per cent - all at records.
Cryptocurrency giant bitcoin is near $US120,300.
The Aussie dollar is trading near US65.97c.
