Welcome to the Trading Day blog for Tuesday, September 30. The ASX 200 index closed 0.2 per cent lower to 8848.80 points as energy falls offset mining gains.

 

On Wall Street, the six-month-long rally in US stocks remained intact despite US government shutdown fears. Nasdaq led gains, rising 0.5 per cent, the S&P 500 climbed 0.3 per cent and the Dow Jones industrials inched roughly 0.1 per cent higher.

Cryptocurrency giant bitcoin was around $US114,000 at 4.55pm AEST.

The Aussie dollar was trading around US66.02c after the RBA decision.
