Tell-all book by Donald Trump’s niece Mary sells nearly a million copies
Mary Trump’s memoir sold more than 950,000 copies on the first day of its release this week.
Mary Trump’s memoir, Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man, sold more than 950,000 copies on the first day of its release on Tuesday.
The results included pre-orders and first-day sales and spanned all formats. Publisher Simon & Schuster said the results represented “a company record”.
A 14th printing had been ordered, bringing the total number of hardcover copies in print to more than 1.15 million.
The tell-all book, written by President Donald Trump’s niece, ranked No 1 on Amazon’s Top 100 bestseller list on Friday AEST.
Dr Trump, a clinical psychologist, wrote that she leaked critical financial documents about the
Trump family to The New York Times in 2017 in an effort to damage the President.
Earlier this week, a New York judge lifted a temporary injunction against Dr Trump, ending a legal battle intended to block her book’s release.
“There is no doubt that the book is out in the public eye in significant quantities,” judge Hal Greenwald wrote.
He said removing hundreds of thousands of books from various booksellers would be “a logistical nightmare” and “an insurmountable task”.
Mr Trump’s younger brother, Robert, had opposed publication, arguing it violated an earlier confidentiality agreement related to the settlement of a family inheritance dispute.
“We sold more copies of Mary Trump’s book on the first day than we have of John Bolton’s book to date, and we are now out of stock,” said Daniel Goldin, owner of the Boswell Book Company bookstore in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Former national security adviser John Bolton’s book, The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir, sold more than 780,000 copies in all formats through its first week on sale in the US in late June. Simon & Schuster declined to provide first-day sales and pre-order numbers for that book.
Mr Bolton’s book, which relays stories about his time in government and relationship with the President, was No 8 on Amazon’s Top 100 bestseller list on Friday.
The Trump administration tried to block publication of Mr Bolton’s book on national-security grounds.
