James Murdoch resigns from board of News Corp
Younger son of Rupert Murdoch quits the board, citing disagreements over editorial content and strategic decisions.
James Murdoch, the younger son of New Corp Executive Chairman Rupert Murdoch, has resigned from New Corp’s board of directors, citing disagreements over editorial content published in the company’s news outlets and other strategic decisions.
The resignation, announced in a company filing, marks the younger Mr. Murdoch’s full departure from the family’s businesses. In 2019, he left as chief executive of 21st Century Fox after substantial parts of the company’s entertainment unit were sold to Walt Disney Co.
“My resignation is due to disagreements over certain editorial content published by the company’s news outlets and certain other strategic decisions,” Mr. Murdoch said in his resignation letter, which was published as part of the company’s filing.
A spokeswoman for the 47-year-old Mr. Murdoch said he had no additional comment. The elder Mr. Murdoch didn’t immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
Since departing from Fox, James Murdoch had launched his own investment fund, Lupa Systems but had remained on the News Corp board.
The Murdoch family are the controlling shareholders of both Fox Corp. and News Corp, which owns Dow Jones, publisher of The Wall Street Journal and The Australian.
