Walking the drone: PoV (Point of View) cameras are all the rage, and the GoPro is one of the best. People put them on helmets, booms, surfboards and more — but this device is something new to behold. AirDog is a personal drone that follows you around and videos you doing — well, whatever you are doing. Yes, follows you … like a dog … in the Air ... with a GoPro … tethered by an electronic leash. The AirDog promo video was shot with an actual AirDog and looks stunning. The promoters are raising funds on Kickstarter and will be delivering in November. What is next? AnnoyMyNeighbours Drone? FollowMyKids Drone? WalkMyDog Drone? Why not — this is going to be fun! www.airdog.com: http://bit.ly/1poutY0
4K brilliance: With the FRR-AX100, Sony has released the world’s first prosumer 4K camcorder. The video quality is stunning. It has a 14 megapixel sensor for video and 20MP for stills and everything else you’d except from a prosumer model. There is built-in near field communications and WiFi that supports streaming video to a TV. It can also be controlled by a smartphone. If you have a 4K TV at home, then this is the camera for you — if you want to see your family in 4K that is! Check out the sample 4K video @ http://bit.ly/1poAbZX — it’ll make you go “wow”. The FRR-AX100 retails for around $2500 and is available now.
Stunning tablet: Samsung has released many tablets and I have not been a not a fan of any of them — until now. The Galaxy Tab S — designed in similar style to the Galaxy S5 smartphone — is a stunning device, on par with Apple’s iPad — finally! It is loaded with tech that you would expect from a high-end tablet, but the accessories make this device a standout. The “Book Cover” is absolutely beautiful and looks like a high-end notepad. There is also a Bluetooth keyboard cover that actually makes it look like a small laptop. Buying this device gets you free limited access to Marvel Comics, Evernote, LinkedIn Premium and more. Available in Australia in July.
Tasty gadgets: Do you love to BBQ and also love your gadgets? Well, the iGrill range from iDevices is for the techno-chef that you never knew you wanted to be. Once you produce those perfect steaks you will wonder how you ever survived without it (not really). The iGrills have Bluetooth connectivity and transmit their data in real-time to your smartphone app. The iGrill2 supports up to four simultaneous probes and the iGrillmini supports a single probe. A coloured light shows you the progress of your cooking so you know when it is just right. The iGrill2 sells for $99 and the iGrillmini is around $50 and available from the Apple Store. http://bit.ly/1poyQ5n
When 27” isn’t enough: Twenty-nine-inch ultra-wide displays have landed at a price that puts them in reach of anyone. Acre, Dell, Asus, LG, AOC and others all have options. Most of these attractive displays support an aspect ratio of 21:9 meaning you can watch a wide-screen movie in 16:9 and still be reading your email in the remaining space. Resolutions are typically 2560 x 1080 with IPS panels and LED backlights. They all come with many connection options with most also having USB3.0 hubs. Prices range from $550 to $900. At the extreme end of the size spectrum is the stunning Dell UltraSharp 32” Ultra HD display that does 16:9 at 3840 x 2160 resolution but at $3000 you would need to mortgage the house. Personally I’d rather buy a new iMac 27” at that price.
App - Translate it: Word Lens is so good that Google just bought the company behind it. This app is essentially augmented reality. You point your smartphone at a sign and have it translate the language to another. It does this by changing the text on the sign, even matching fonts and colours if possible. Available for IOS and Android. http://bit.ly/1o8HL77
