Network Ten’s launch of reality show I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! a fortnight earlier than in previous years proved popular with viewers on Sunday night.
The latest season, featuring a dozen so-called Australian celebrities, including current and former politicians Jacqui Lambie and Sam Dastyari, kicked off on Sunday night in two parts, securing first and second spots on free-to-air television.
Network 10’s chief content officer Beverley McGarvey said the network was “really happy” with the show’s launch following a marketing campaign blitz.
“We really had to redefine the landscape for summer viewing this year and early indications show there is a market for first-run entertainment now most of the country is back at work,’’ Ms McGarvey said.”
I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here — Welcome to the Jungle, which aired from 7.31pm (AEDT) to 8.01pm last night, was watched by 1.35 million viewers nationally, peaking at 1.56 million, according to Ten.
The second part of the show, Opening Night, boasted 1.44 million viewers nationally, peaking at 1.75 million.
Ten said they were the first two shows to have more than 1 million viewers this year.
