Tipple quenches thirst for data
A Melbourne-based start-up says it’s shaking up the alcohol industry with its raw data.
Melbourne and Sydney-based alcohol delivery service Tipple says it’s shaking up the alcohol industry with its raw data, which was previously unavailable to shops, suppliers and producers.
Tipple co-founder Ryan Barrington said his start-up is gaining valuable insights into what motivators customers to buy alcohol, as well as what times they’re doing so and their age and suburb.
“We are obtaining a lot of valuable data about our customers, which assists in identifying trends, enables us to hold stock more efficiently and strategically grow to surrounding suburbs,” Mr Barrington said.
“Traditionally with a bottle shop, once the sale is made at the counter, you have no further information. We get a lot of interest from suppliers wanting to access our data, so that they can make more informed decisions about their products.”
Mr Barringon said Tipple identified Canterbury as a high grown potential area and will look to roll out its service across the suburb in the coming weeks.
“Although liquor is a regulated product, prior to the rise of digital technology, there were very little safety precautions and preventive methods in place to encourage responsible drinking,” he said.
“By using data to power insights into customer’s purchase behaviours and drinking patterns, we can monitor customer habits and have an in-built safety feature that allows friends and families to contact us if they’re concerned about someone.”
According to Mr Barrington, Tipple’s vision is to help shape the alcohol industry for the better.
“With our data we see that in the near future we essentially could provide a unified safe, secure and real time system in which we can provide a safer, more responsible drinking experience to everyone.”
