Telstra has suffered a major outage, with customers around the country unable to make phone calls.
The telco, which this week affirmed it is cutting a quarter of its workforce, said on Twitter that customers should use apps like Facetime instead of making phone calls.
We're aware that some people are having intermittent issues with making calls on their mobile and we're looking into it. Data and messaging are OK. We'll give you an update when we know more.

According to outage website Down Detector, Telstra customers in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide were all experiencing issues.
By pm Telstra informed customers that both voice and data services were working again.
The issues cap a big week for Telstra, which started selling Australia’s first 5G phone — the Samsung Galaxy S10 — on Tuesday which boasts download speeds of up to 1.2Gbps, which is multiple times faster than most NBN connections.

The telco also on Wednesday said it was fast-forwarding plans to cut thousands of jobs, with 6000 positions to be removed by the end of June. The figure includes almost 4700 jobs it had already cut since June last year, as part of its plan to shed 8000 roles across the business by June 2022.
The accelerated process will now see another 1300 jobs cut in June.
