Players rejoice, this AI dating app chats up all your matches for you

Can’t be bothered replying to all your dating app matches? There’s AI for that now. And it promises to save the world from ‘ghosting’.

Is your flirting a bit rusty? Australians now have access to a new artificial intelligence-powered dating app which supplies a chatbot to practise the one liners before a match is made.

Teaser AI, co-founded by American tech entrepreneur Daniel Liss, was quietly launched in Australia two weeks ago and plans to host a number of meet-up parties across the country over summer.

The app, which uses AI to learn about a user’s behaviours and their dating preferences, spruiks that it’ll have those looking for a date spending less time on its platform while getting better matches.

Mr Liss said he thinks his app can solve what he describes as a “graveyard of ghosting” on services such as Tinder, Grindr, Bumble and Hinge.

“Perhaps the biggest problem on these dating apps is that actually people get a ton of matches, and in particular women in heterosexual dating get a lot of matches, but they’re not getting enough responses or initial messages,” he said.

“In turn, it’s this graveyard of ghosting, where you spend all this effort to get matches and then nothing happens. And so you’re left and frustrated and wondering if something’s wrong with you.”

Teaser AI assigns each individual user with a chatbot which can answer up to five questions a potential suitor may want to know.

A disclaimer on the app warns “our AI may say some crazy shit” and “Despite our best efforts, it can still hallucinate or offend”.

Mr Liss said a number of factors such as a user’s location, age, gender and sexuality would not be disclosed by the chatbot.

“Empirically we know the odds of someone wanting to go out and meet are much higher because (use of the chatbot) would show a little effort,” Mr Liss said.

“The bar is low on dating apps today. If a user has shown they can string together full sentences and that they have an interest beyond the superficial ‘wow you’re beautiful’, people will be more interested.”

In a bid to curb the phenomenon of ghosting – a Millennial term which describes the practice of cutting communication from a person without warning – Teaser AI provides a “ghost score” which rates a user based on their response rate and the time they take to respond.

“We do know on dating apps when people are messaging or when they’re responding. It’s not that hard to use this data for good and create a score that indicates whether people are responsive,” he said.

“Of course, you can reject people after matching them and your ghost score won’t go down.”

On the auto-matching function, Mr Liss said Teaser AI would provide around three to four matches each week, reaching a total of 16 at any time.

“We limit the number of matches and likes you have to 16 so you’ve got space to chat and at least give someone an answer. Rejection is hard, but it’s a lot worse to be in this limbo state,” Mr Liss said.

The service, which is in beta or testing mode, would cost users anywhere from $US19.99 ($29.45) per week, $US39.99 per month or $US229.99 for a lifetime membership.
