Travellers rejoice, streaming giant Netflix has announced global availability of its on-demand service.

During a press conference focusing heavily on the internally produced ‘Originals’ series, Netflix flipped the switch on global access for more than 190 countries. Subscribers may now access on demand content from almost anywhere in the world.

The big exception in availability is China, although the company “continues to explore options for providing the service”. Other areas missing out in the global rollout include North Korea, Crimea and Syria due to US government restrictions.

The global content offering promises to include all of Netflix’s originals series and a selection of licensed films and television shows.

It’s unclear how Netflix has managed to achieve the significant feat of licensing the content of other studios for this new venture, but expect a significantly reduced offering from the Australian and US services.
