APPLE has released a new range of MacBook Pros with faster processors, dropping the price of its top-end model.

The new MacBook with Retina display range also has double the memory of the previous generation. Units will go on sale in Australia tomorrow both in Apple retail outlets and online.

A 13-inch model with a 2.6 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, 128 GB of flash storage and 8GB of memory will cost from $1599, the same model with 256 GB of flash storage will sell from $1849, and a model with a faster 2.8 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of memory and 512GB of flash storage will sell from $2199.

Users can configure MacBook Pros with up to 1 terabyte of flash storage.

Apple said it was lowering the price of the top-of-the-line 15-inch notebook. This previously had cost $3199 on Apple Australia’s website. The new advertised price is $2999. Other prices are as before, although specs have been upgraded.

A 15-inch model with a 2.2 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of memory and 256GB of flash storage starts from $2499, and one with a 2.5 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of memory, 512GB of flash storage and dual graphics cards costs from $2999.

A 13-inch MacBook Pro with a 2.5 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of memory and a 500GB hard drive is priced from $1349.

“The MacBook Pro with Retina display gets even better with faster processors, more memory, more affordable configurations and a free upgrade to OS X Yosemite,” said Apple senior vice president Phil Schiller.
