Asra ready to drill in next phase of Leonora South gold quest
Asra Minerals will launch a 3000m RC drilling program this week at its Leonora South gold project, targeting the Challenge and Eclipse prospects.
Special Report: A 3000m RC drilling campaign will start this week at Asra Minerals’ Leonora South gold project focusing on Challenge and Eclipse prospects within 500m of the 21,605oz resource at the Sapphire deposit.
- The campaign will focus on the Challenge and Eclipse targets within the Leonora South asset
- Both prospects are 500m along strike from Asra’s Sapphire resource
- The program will follow up shallow gold intersections from historical drilling
Both targets have been subject to historical drilling with high-grade intersections and the campaign aims to confirm the grade and continuity of mineralisation as well as assess the resource potential.
The program will follow the recent completion of drilling at Orion, Sapphire and Gladstone, where samples have been dispatched for analysis.
That campaign focused on down dip extensions and followed up on significant gold intersections recorded in October 2024, which confirmed high-grade mineralisation 30m below existing drilling.
Drilling to finish by August
Asra Minerals (ASX:ASR) CEO Paul Stephen said the upcoming program marked a new phase of exploration at Leonora South, targeting two highly prospective gold prospects on the doorstep of its existing Orion-Sapphire resource.
“Given that historical drilling has already confirmed near-surface mineralisation, we’re confident this campaign will significantly advance our understanding of the broader system and unlock further value across the Leonora gold project,” he said.
The company expects the drilling to begin in the coming week and finish up in August.
Extensive pipeline of drill targets
Asra initiated a thorough interpretation of aeromagnetic data over its Leonora gold projects earlier this year, combining field mapping, in-depth data analysis and airborne survey processing led by Southern Geoscience Consultants.
It resulted in the definition and ranking of 26 priority gold targets across the Leonora South and North project areas, significantly enhancing the company’s exploration pipeline.
These targets, located within favourable geological settings, include untested areas along known mineralised structures as well as newly identified conceptual targets.
Asra said the additional drill targets enhanced the company’s extensive target pipeline, covering 75km2 of cumulative strike with high-grade potential.
