Japanese fashion retailer UNIQLO will open its first Adelaide store next year
Japanese fashion firm UNIQLO will open its first Adelaide store in the city next year, but eager shoppers will have to wait longer than they might expect.
UNIQLO will open its first Adelaide store in the Myer Centre in Rundle Mall next year, but shoppers will have to wait some time before the doors open.
The Japanese fashion retailer will open the new store in the fourth quarter of 2022, operating across 1000sq/m and employing about 80 people.
The store will be on the ground floor of the Myer Centre on the south west side of the building, below the Rebel Sport store.
A spokesman for the company said the long lead time before opening was due to a need to expand the current floor plan to accommodate the larger UNIQLO store.
UNIQLO, which was launched in Yamaguchi, Japan, in 1949, has more than 1000 stores globally and is known for its casual wear with a Japanese twist.
UNIQLO Australia’s chief operating officer Kensuke Suwa said the new store would offer a full line up of the company’s LifeWear range, as well as seasonal collaborations with designers such as JW Anderson, Christophe Lemaire and Jil Sander and its UT (UNIQLO graphic T-shirt) range.
“This opening is not only a special milestone for the shoppers in the Myer Centre Adelaide, it is also for everyone at UNIQLO,’’ Mr Suwa said.
“Whenever we open a new store, we want to deliver the best possible UNIQLO and LifeWear experience for local customers.
“We worked hard to find the perfect location, and the Myer Centre Adelaide is a wonderful place that sets us up perfectly to put our best foot forward in South Australia.”
A spokesperson for Myer Centre Adelaide said the new store would “further enhance the overall vibrancy of Myer Centre Adelaide and contribute to creating an unparalleled shopping experience for our customers”.
The Adelaide store will be the company’s 26th in Australia.
