Domino’s has revealed the future of pizza delivery.

The company says it’s boldly going where no pizza company has gone before, launching a revolutionary new e-bike which it reckons is destined to change the food delivery universe forever.

Having obviously spent a fair of dough, the Domino’s dxb delivery bike features a built-in, fan-forced oven and a shock absorber system – which they say gives enough bounce to rival a fighter jet and cuts g-forces by 67 per cent – to ensure optimum pizza freshness and cheese stretch.

Domino’s Group chief executive Don Meij says it’s no secret the company is obsessed with enhancing the delivery experience, having tested everything from drones to autonomous delivery vehicles, jet skis to reindeer.

“For us, delivering the perfect pizza is more than just a job – it’s our core purpose and runs deep within our DNA,” Meij says.

“The dxb is the next exciting milestone in our quest to ensuring your pizza reaches you in record time without compromising on quality or taste.”

The dxb’s out-of-this-world features also have big benefits right here on Earth, with

the eco-friendly delivery solution marking a significant step forward in the company’s

sustainability goals.

Domino’s Group chief environmental, social and governance officer Marika Stegmeijer says that by investing in electric delivery modes, Domino’s aims to reduce its carbon footprint and lead the charge towards a greener and cleaner future.

“Our new e-bike concept is a testament to our dedication to delivering not only great tasting pizzas, but also making a positive difference for our people, customers, food, communities and, of course, our environment,” she says.”

The dxb will be gradually rolled out in select locations across the Company’s 12 markets, with plans for wider adoption soon.

Slice of history

The New Farm coffee set may not be up in arms quite yet, but they’re wondering about the future of the historic butcher’s shop just a block away from the trendy James Street precinct.

The property at 105 James St, is deemed a place of local heritage significance by the council having been built in 1901 and operated as a butcher shop continuously until it recently closed after being sold for $3.525m.

The building has quite a history having for a decade operated as a State Butchery between 1918-1929 – as part of the then Labor Government experiment in direct intervention in the marketplace – which was probably a hit when New Farm was not quite so trendy.

The local institution as bought by Saidar Pty Ltd, which in 2021 also bought a property at 109 James St, which is occupied by Consolidated Insurance Brokers.

A quick search found that the owners of Saidar are two Teneriffe locals – William Paull and Jeffrey Forbes.

Mr Paull is the account director at Consolidated Insurance Brokers but did not return Citybeat’s phone calls.

A clue to the fate of the old butcher shop may have come through a blurb from the local real estate agency which sold the building. They said the buyer intends to land bank the 405sq m corner site long term with the “vision” to improve its rental return. We shall see.
