When it comes to a view it’s all about going with the flow
Absolute waterfront views and a jetty outside your door. For the Fergusons, this bit of paradise on the NSW Central Coast will be difficult to part with.
Walking out to the end of the jetty and setting up a couple of chairs is Geoff and Barbara Ferguson’s favourite way to take in the ever changing view of bayside activities from their home on the NSW Central Coast.
Nestled into the southern side of Brisbane Water at Point Clare, the couple’s lives since the early-1980s have been about making the most of the water view.
“I’ve lived here for the last 40 years,” Geoff said. “The attraction was the eastern view and the waterfront.
“Years ago, there wasn’t the interest in being on the water as there is today. The waterfront blocks were plentiful, you could buy one anywhere around the Brisbane Water.
“But now there is probably, as far as I know, about three waterfront blocks for sale, similar to this one.”
The timeless family home on Kurrawa Ave at Point Clare has served the Fergusons well as they raised their three children, with hours spent on the water.
They had a boat from the time they moved in and while the kids learned to sail, each of the eight grandkids were taught to waterski.
“The activity on the water here is great because there’s always something going on,” Geoff said.
“When the kids were sailing, we used to have a power boat and we’d follow the sailing right around the bay.”
Nowadays, family barbecues spent chasing the sun from the back veranda to the front yard are common. The family’s snooker table – which typically gets a workout later in the evening – was given pride of place in a recent renovation when the games room was built. Originally salvaged from a neighbouring home when the owner passed away, the table was lovingly restored.
Multiple indoor and outdoor living areas have been created on the lower level of the property, making it perfect for entertaining. Floor to ceiling glass takes full advantage of the spectacular wide water frontage and views across Brisbane Water and allows effortless flow through the home.
The master bedroom on the second floor looks out over the water, and can be accessed via an internal lift.
The grassed back yard, which spans right up to the seawall, sits next to the private boat ramp, ideal for a small tender, and boat storage is also at the rear.
But now, the lifelong locals of Gosford are selling up to downsize to an apartment, changing their view to the opposite side of the bay. Ray White Macdonald Partners agents Lachlan and Andrew Macdonald are marketing the project via an expression of interest campaign, closing August 25.
Not only are the couple selling their family home on a battleaxe block at number 23, the original three-bedroom cottage on the roadside of the block at number 21 is also on offer.
The discerning buyer could look to purchase both homes and keep them or sell one off. Alternatively, a developer may be interested in picking up the 1988sq m double title block to blend in with neighbouring developments of new luxury waterfront apartment complexes, duplexes and townhouses.
Geoff said Point Clare has changed considerably since they first called the area home.
“When we came here, there were a lot of small houses on the waterfront, just single houses single, two, three bedroom houses,” he said.
“Now, there’s units going up in the street, or around so it’s completely changed.”
The jetty is shared with the neighbouring property on separate licences.
