Trophy homes: Transformation on the Swan

The Perth home of Leisure & Allied Industries founder Malcolm Steinberg on the Swan River remains listed for sale.

The Perth home of Leisure & Allied Industries founder and chairman Malcolm Steinberg and wife Frances at Mosman Park on the Swan River remains listed for sale. The couple bought the property two decades ago paying $2.85 million, then set about transforming the home with walls of glass, terraces and gardens. Set on a 1475sq m parcel, the lower level of the five-bedroom house features a billiard room, gym, sauna and pool. It’s been listed through William Porteous Properties International agent William Porteous who has a $12m price guide. Steinberg founded LAI in 1958 and remained its CEO until 2013. They will stay in Mosman Park, but off the water.

Bradtkes slam-dunk $2m

Retired tennis player Nicole Bradtke and basketballer Mark Bradtke have sold their Sandringham home. They got $2,092,500 for their red brick Edwardian Melbourne home of nine years. The four-bed home sits within the Gipsy Village heritage precinct. It had been expected to sell for about $1.9m through Nick Johnstone Real Estate. They paid $1.31m in 2007. Nicole won three singles and nine doubles on the WTA tour and Mark was inducted into the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013.

Darlings take to Cape Schanck

The establishment Darling family have secured Linx, one of Cape Schanck’s most prestigious properties, after paying a $5.3m record. The coastal home offers views across the bay back to the Melbourne skyline from the grounds of The National Golf Club. The expansive home of 100 squares was designed by the West Valentine Design. The five-bedroom property comes with a commercial indoor barbecue area, a cinematic theatre with eight recliners along with a 1000-bottle wine cellar accessed through 17th century French doors. The home on 4700sq m was sold by Rob Curtain and Patrick Sinn at Sotheby’s International Realty.

Mapp-Testas leave riverfront

The former Disney TV presenter Jeniene Mapp-Testa and her restaurateur husband Lincoln Testa are selling their riverfront on the Gold Coast. The contemporary five-bedroom house sits on an Isle of Capri block that cost the couple $795,000 in 2003. The 800sq m parcel was previously part of a triple block holding owned by the late INXS frontman Michael Hutchence. Hutchence’s family once recalled his excitement when he bought it in 1995. Not only had $1m bought the house, but the sellers included their Bentley in the deal. Lucy Cole agent Nick Cole has $2m-plus price expectations. The couple own Madisons Cafe and hope to make Designer Creations by Madisons the largest wedding cake company in Queensland.

Switkowskis keep it in the family

And don’t say I told you but the NBN boss and nuclear physicist Ziggy Switkowski has sold his Toorak home for $4m to his son, Mark, who is with the Boston Consulting Group, based out of Jakarta. Switkowski paid $3.12m for the home in 2002 when it was bought from the founders of Guest furniture, Alan and Wendy Guest, who had Nicholas Day update the villa.
