Future Fund board member Michael Wachtel and his photographer wife Linda headline the Easter weekend Portsea auction listings. There are 27 auctions scheduled across the Mornington Peninsula. Their long-time Back Beach Road weekender has been listed after their Australia Day weekend auction acquisition closer to the bay. Kay & Burton agent Liz Jensen has been marketing the classic ‘L-shape’ holiday home, which has five bedrooms, three bathrooms and a north-facing entertaining sun deck. The couple paid $660,000 for the home in 2004. Wachtel, who is also an adviser at Credit Suisse, spent $1.95 million on nearby Blair Ridge that came with Fiona Brockhoff-designed gardens. It’s been a busy time for Wachtel, who sold his long-held Toorak home last month for just under $8m to Fraser Wilkinson,of Wilkinson Electronic Document Solutions. The freestanding terrace, which cost $726,000 in 1992, sold through Kay & Burton. They paid $3.2m for a 400sq m Balmerino Avenue, Toorak, site where they intend building a town house.

Queen Street penthouse on offer

Former Queensland treasurer Keith DeLacy and wife Yvonne are selling their inner Brisbane penthouse. The two-level Queen Street apartment in the MacArthur Chambers building cost $1.75m in 2008. The building takes its name from General Douglas MacArthur who commandeered the premises as a base during World War 11. Keith, who was Queensland Treasurer from 1989 to 1996, and is now involved in agricultural start-ups, suggests the apartment is perfect for an executive to hold meetings. It’s being offered through Ray White Ascot agent Ian Cuneo. They’ve also listed their long-held family home in Redlynch, inland from Cairns, his former electorate, with plans to buy in Brisbane.

A ruckman’s paradise

Former Hawthorn and Richmond ruckman Greg Dear and wife Tracey are selling Golden Point, their Kalimna home on the Gippsland Lakes. They relocated from Melbourne to the 7.5 ha estate in 2000 where architect James Ridgway designed the home. It offers lake frontage to the section known by the locals as Big Ears Bay. Greg, who was a part of Hawthorn’s VFL premiership winning teams in 1986, 1988 and 1989, runs an accounting firm at Lakes Entrance. Pat Rice & Hawkins agent Peter Balharrie is seeking $1.7m plus.

Sweet deal for Edwardian home

Levi Strauss managing director Paul Sweet has sold his renovated Edwardian home in Melbourne’s Brighton for $2.575m. Sweet extended the single level Brickwood Street home having paid $713,000 in 2001. Behind the classic exterior lies four bedrooms and two bathrooms, which had $2.2m plus price hopes through Marshall White. It comes with herringbone matt-timber floors, Moooi lighting, honeycomb and subway tiles and plantation shutters as part of the recent makeover.
