Martyn and Helena Downs sell Cronulla penthouse for $13
Billed as the finest sky home in southern Sydney, an executive couple have sold their penthouse for $13m within days of it hitting the market.
Childcare executive and hotelier Martyn Downs and his wife Helena have sold their penthouse in Sydney’s southern beachside suburb of Cronulla for $13m within ten days of it hitting the market.
Billed as the finest sky home in southern Sydney, the luxury three-level penthouse with views of Gunnamatta Bay, was snapped up by a local buyer ahead of its proposed September 13 auction.
The Downs family purchased the penthouse in 2006 for $4.62m according to CoreLogic.
Fronting Cronulla’s Tonkin Street, the penthouse, with an expansive 700 sq m of internal space and a total area of 1,000 sq m, recently hit the market with a $15m guide.
Spanning three levels, the 7 Tonkin Street penthouse has six bedrooms and includes a self-contained three-bedroom apartment on the lower level.
The outdoor entertaining area includes a gas barbeque station, multiple waterfront terraces and balconies, as well as stunning views of Gunnamatta Bay.
“The swiftness with which this striking property was snapped up by a local buyer speaks volumes about the enduring appeal of the Cronulla area and its ability to attract discerning buyers seeking a combination of luxury, location, and lifestyle,” says Highland chief executive and listing agent, David Highland.
The Cronulla area has long been a magnet for sports stars with a swathe of cricketers including Ricky Ponting, Steve Waugh, and Michael Clarke, at various stages over the years either purchasing or looking to purchase in the area.
The selling agent for the Tonkin Street listing, Mitchell Wynn, said when the property came on the market we immediately tapped into our robust database and identified potential purchasers who were actively searching for a property just like this.
Features include a heated infinity swimming pool, spa, Swedish sauna, and steam room shower.
