Scenic founder Glen Maroney lists Sydney harbourfront apartment for $37m
The founder of a cruise company has listed his prestigious apartment on the tip of the only private residential pier overlooking Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The Swiss-based founder and chairman of international cruise company Scenic, Glen Moroney, has listed his prestigious north-facing harbourfront apartment with a price guide of $37m.
Positioned at the northernmost tip of Sydney’s only private residential pier overlooking Sydney Harbour Bridge, the five-bedroom Hickson Rd, Walsh Bay apartment is billed as an architecturally designed masterpiece comprising a whole-floor apartment of three units converted into one.
With five bedrooms and six bathrooms plus powder room, it covers 661sq m and is presently rented out at a hefty $10,000 a week.
Prestige marketing agent McGrath’s Richard Shalhoub said the beauty of this amalgamated apartment was its position and its grand foyer, which separated the main living areas and the bedrooms, as well as the substantial guest wing.
Mr Moroney and wife Karen have owned the apartment since 2007 after acquiring three apartments and amalgamating them, gutting the entire space and starting afresh.
The renovation of the apartments, with harbour views from all rooms and wrapped in sun-drenched balconies, was completed in 2009.
“They have created a very smart floor plan with all living, dining, kitchen and main living areas positioned at the northern front of the apartment enjoying the unobstructed and enviable views,” Mr Shalhoub said, adding that the apartment included a private gym with a plunge pool, sauna and steam shower. “In my 20 years of selling harbourfront apartments, I have never had the privilege of selling such a remarkable home of this scale in such a highly desirable location.
“This is really a rare opportunity to acquire a property of this calibre in one of Sydney’s most prestigious and secure buildings,” he said, adding that the building had a 24-hour concierge service.
Mr Shalhoub said he expected to attract interest from local and international buyers, adding that the apartment included an exclusive private lift, two marina berth moorings and separate luxe self-contained guest accommodation that could also be used for an au pair. It also included six carparking spaces.
Mr Shalhoub described the kitchen as a state-of-the-art euro marble kitchen with a full butler’s pantry.
In a statement to The Weekend Australian, the Switzerland-based Mr Moroney said he was selling the apartment because his ship building and ship operations were focused in Europe.
“We left Australia in 2014 and as these activities are ongoing it’s not planned that we will return to Sydney,” he said.
One of Australia’s most successful leisure travel companies, Scenic is a diversified global travel company that operates expedition and ocean cruising itineraries around the world.
Scenic also operates river cruising itineraries in Europe and Asia, as well as land-based tours to destinations in Australia, Africa and Ireland.
Mr Shalhoub said he would soon launch an expressions-of-interest campaign for the apartment.
