Mansion global: Californian dream house in Encino
Simply touring this estate in Encino, California, might be enough to make a person burst into song.
Simply touring this estate and its three contiguous residences set atop a knoll in Encino, California, might be enough to make a person burst into song.
Owners Jim and Jodi Simon built the Spanish Revival-style main house, guesthouse and staff quarters in 2014. They enlisted local architect John Andrews to fulfil their vision of marrying modern luxuries to the romance of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
“He is known to integrate modern elements into old world design,” Jim Simon says of Andrews. “This included open spaces and synergies between rooms that didn’t exist in yesteryear, such as kitchens interplaying with living rooms while still maintaining period integrity.”
All rooms, from the elegant main house to the cozy guesthouse, open to intimate outdoor living areas, which is the quintessential expression of the California lifestyle.
Panoramic vistas are visible throughout the home by way of oversized windows and folding walls of glass. Toward the southwest, the rolling hills evoke a Tuscan countryside, and to the northeast, the city views pop against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains.
Potential buyers include “everyone from CEOs to famous musicians,” Jim says. “It has the kind of signature compound feel that checks off all the boxes for the discerning buyer who loves the area.”
The property’s three contiguous homes and pool casita or cabana comprise more than 936sq m of separate but cohesive living spaces, which include a total of seven bedrooms and 10 bathrooms.
“The walking track that surrounds the property is pretty special,” says Jim, who had a difficult time choosing his favourite feature. “The master bathroom is magical by every measure. The outdoor fireplace with sitting area is perfectly suited so that it can be enjoyed from the living room and the pool casita is a very serene place to do yoga and meditate in.”
Located in the Santa Monica Mountains, Encino residents can enjoy the natural beauty while being in proximity to nearly everything Los Angeles has to offer. The estate is about 30 minutes away from the Santa Monica Pier, the Venice Boardwalk, The Grove and Los Angeles International Airport.
