Former Virgin CEO Paul Scurrah sells luxury Brisbane home for around $10m

Former Virgin Australia boss Paul Scurrah and his wife Nicole have sold their luxury Queenslander in the blue-chip suburb of Ascot in a deal believed to be around $10m.

Former Virgin Australia chief executive Paul Scurrah has sold his Brisbane home in a deal believed to be around $10m.

The luxury Queenslander in the blue-chip suburb of Ascot was sold last month for an undisclosed amount after an understated sales campaign.

Mr Scurrah and his ex-political staffer wife Nicole relocated to Sydney after he resigned from his top job at Virgin following private equity firm Bain Capital’s takeover of the indebted business. He is now the chief executive of the nation’s biggest freight hauler Pacific National.

The luxury property dubbed “Wellington” was designed by architect Shaun Lockyer and commands a 1,620 sqm corner block. The five-bedroom home boasts a pool, magnesium spa and champion-sized east-west tennis court.

Inside the home is just as high-end, with a media room, two informal living rooms, a gym and a 495-bottle temperature-controlled wine room.

Place Ascot principal Drew Davis remained tight-lipped on final figure of the same, only confirming the property had been sold after negotiations from an expression of interest campaign.

The Scurrahs purchased the home for $2.75 million in 2010 and had previously tried to offload it in 2018 but were unsuccessful.

Built around 1890 and spanning four titles, 1 Ormond St was described as blending historic charm with modern functionality. The palatial master suite has its own floor on the upper level of the home, with exposed beams, glass louvres and an abundance of natural light throughout.

The central hallway is connected to each of the living and dining areas, which are all adorned with chandeliers and fireplaces The kitchen connects to both the family room and alfresco dining and pool area, and is decked out in top-of-the-line Miele appliances.

The Scurrah’s have been shuffling around their property holdings of late, with public records revealing the they sold a house in the neighbouring suburbs of Clayfield for $4.1m in September.

The top-end of the Brisbane market has been surprisingly strong through 2023, with a new record on $20.5m set in the riverfront peninsula of New Farm.
