The long-awaited tower above Sydney’s City Tattersalls Club is closer to fruition with the joint Singapore and Melbourne developers announcing the $800m, 50-level hotel and residential tower fronting Pitt St will be completed within three years.

To be called Sydney House, the tower will offer 241 units positioned above a 136-room hotel in a joint venture between Singapore-listed First Sponsor Group and Melbourne-based developer ICD Property.

It’s been designed by architects BVN Architecture (for the tower and interiors) and FJC Studio (for the heritage podium), with the units to be offered to the market from early next year.

However, First Sponsor Group’s chief executive Neo Teck Pheng, together with ICD Property CEO Matthew Khoo, would not reveal prices.

Nor would they reveal unit configurations of the sky high units except to say there will be studios and penthouses.

The apartments will overlook Hyde Park and the Sydney Opera House.

“Sydney House will offer a sophisticated expression of modern CBD living, capturing panoramic vistas to Sydney’s most beloved icons, including the Sydney Harbour Bridge as well as Hyde Park,” Mr Khoo said in a statement.

The development will restore the former City Tattersalls Club’s site, owned by a consortium led by First Sponsor Group.

Mr Neo said that the reinterpretation of the heritage podium levels will feature an elegant heritage bar and restaurant, along with luxurious hotel and function facilities, enhancing the experience for residents. The hotel management company is yet to be revealed.

Marketing agent CBRE Residential Projects Senior Director Tim Rees said the tower would be completed in 2027.

“Pitt Street is arguably the most significant street in all of Sydney. Just a stone’s throw from Circular Quay, the Opera House, Hyde Park and Darling Harbour, Sydney House offers seamless connection with the CBD and beyond. Pitt Street Mall is literally across the road and there is an abundance of dining venues in proximity,” he said.

“The outlook from Sydney House will be breathtaking with views of Hyde Park and Sydney’s famous iconic landmarks on offer.”

First Sponsor and ICD Property secured development approval for the project at 194-204 Pitt Street in late November 2021.
