The former Golden Crust bakery in Armadale has been listed by Village Roadshow boss Clark Kirby and wife Sara. It comes with a guide of $17.3m-$19m. The 1915-built property was converted into a luxury five-bedroom home in 2010 by logistics company entrepreneur Mark Rowsthorn using architects Jackson Clements Burrows. Rowsthorn had paid $4.5m in 2006 to buy the property from antique dealers who used it as their home and gallery. A swimming pool and spa sit in the 1850sq m grounds. Bush Tucker Man out of Kuranda
Leslie James Hiddins, better known as The Bush Tucker Man, and wife Sandra are selling their home in far north Queensland. The home on 7975sq m in Kuranda, a mountain village west of Cairns, cost the couple $500,000 in 2012. Since then it’s been renovated and extended, now with wings that come off the main structure. One is a master wing, designed by Chris Van Dyke, complete with handcrafted New Guinea rosewood and silkwood. The other homes a separate studio. There’s four bedrooms, three bathrooms and a new French provincial-style kitchen. Ray White Cairns Beach agent Sonia Poole is asking $995,000. Hiddins, who served in Vietnam, featured in the ABC series The Bush Tucker Man from the late 1980s.
Beach palace sells for $6m
Trinity Beach Palace, the luxury holiday rental in far north Queensland, has sold. The retreat of Otto Buttula, one of the pioneers of boutique fund management, and wife Virginia has been listed since 2016. Abercromby’s Armadale agent Jock Langley took over the listing recently and secured the sale, believed to be for about $6m. The five-bedroom private beachfront estate, north of Cairns, was bought by the Buttulas in 2008, a year after Otto sold IWL, the online share brokerage he co-founded, to Commonwealth Bank. There are two outdoor bars and a pool on the 7585sq m absolute beachfront parcel. They’d spotted the tropical haven after seeing its picture in newspaper marketing when it was offered by Josef Roberts, who introduced Australians to Red Bull. Trinity Beach Palace had been fetching $1250 a night on holiday rental sites.
Swallows fly east for summer
Former North Melbourne AFL star turned Gold Coast Suns specialist tackling coach Andrew Swallow and wife Elise have listed their newly rebuilt Perth home. Swallow bought the Mosman Park house for $1.1m in 2017 while playing in Melbourne, thinking the family would move home, but they have since headed to Byron Bay. They’ve fully restored the mid-1920s cottage with the back of the house newly built. There are now four bedrooms, three living areas, a study and an open-plan alfresco space. It took a year to finish, with Swallow’s friend from primary school Nathan Hardy handling the construction. Ray White Claremont Dalkeith agent Vivien Yap has the listing.
