Adelaide’s northern suburbs has its first premium hotel following the opening of the $70m Crowne Plaza at Mawson Lakes.
The 155-room hotel is part of a seven-storey development on the corner of Elder Smith Rd and Main St, and features a mix of king and twin share rooms, suites, adjoining rooms and kitchenettes, with 24-hour in-room dining options, 24-hour reception, conference and events spaces and a fitness centre.
The hotel’s “locally-inspired” 120-seat restaurant, Ember & Vine, is led by executive chef Kiran Ghate – offering signature dishes including the Ora King Salmon and 1.4kg 36 Degree South Tomahawk – while the Aviator Bar offers floor-to-ceiling views of the Adelaide Hills and adjacent Parafield Airport.
Crowne Plaza Adelaide Mawson Lakes general manager Faisal Sayed said the hotel would benefit from both leisure travellers and visitors to the nearby corporate and defence precincts in Adelaide’s north.
“We are delighted to welcome guests to experience Crowne Plaza Adelaide Mawson Lakes,” he said.
“Our hotel is unlike anything the region has seen and we’re confident it will attract corporate and social events alike in this vibrant part of Adelaide, identifying us as an ideal destination for work and play.
“We are also excited by the appointment of the skilled leaders in our hotel who will see this business thrive now and into the future, bringing to life the global excellence guests expect from Crowne Plaza – all with our inimitable local flavour.”
Melbourne-based property developer Pelligra Group took over the hotel development in 2021, after the previous developer suspended construction at the site in 2018 amid a Consumer and Business Services (CBS) investigation.
In a joint venture with local group One7, Pelligra was initially planning a Holiday Inn & Suites hotel before redesigning the project for the more upscale Crowne Plaza brand.
Pelligra chairman Ross Pelligra said the hotel would become a new landmark for the Mawson Lakes precinct.
“Pelligra is extremely proud to establish an intergenerational asset by introducing a globally recognised brand that will firmly place Mawson Lakes on the map,” he said.
“This exciting milestone reflects our commitment to investing in the long-term growth and vibrancy of the precinct.
“Mawson Lakes is a dynamic and evolving destination, and we are thrilled to enhance its appeal by delivering a world-class offering that will benefit the local community, businesses, and visitors for generations to come.”
