Caterer Peter Rowland selling Toorak mansion
Veteran Melbourne caterer Peter Rowland and wife Susan have listed their Toorak mansion.
Veteran Melbourne caterer Peter Rowland and wife Susan have listed their Toorak mansion with $10m-plus hopes. The Parisian-style home reflects the scale and symmetry of 18th century Ile de France architecture complete with large banquet hall with antique limestone fireplaces. Its facade was such a hit that a spate of copycat homes followed in the neighbourhood. There’s a northeast garden with heated pool on the 748sq m parcel. It’s got a hidden underground garage entrance beneath its tree-lined driveway, described as “James Bond-style” by the listing agents. Inspired by the trapdoor spider, a lid lifts up on the pebbled driveway to reveal a slope down to the basement art gallery with a six-car garage. Marshall White Armadale agents Justin Long and Nicholas Brooks have the offering. The couple paid $1.175m in 1991. Peter Rowland Catering has been a focal point of the Melbourne food scene for more than five decades, becoming synonymous with catering for the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Internal beauty, by design
Melbourne interior designer David Hicks is selling his St Kilda Road apartment. Hicks designed the lock-and-leave three-bedroom apartment in the Elenberg Fraser-designed, Morry Schwartz-built development after buying off the plan in 2007. Now $3.5m plus is expected. No expense was spared in the 300sq m interiors, with hand-selected materials. He layered in his collection of vintage, antique and modern furniture and art. Terraces lead off every room of the apartment, with a secluded outlook over South Yarra. Kay & Burton South Yarra agents Damon Krongold and Tom Staughton have a March 15 offer deadline.
Voss lists grand entertainer
Former Brisbane Lion and triple premiership captain Michael Voss and wife Donna are selling their Coorparoo home, Nu Haven. The couple paid $2.55m for the five-bedroom entertainer in 2009 when Voss took over as head coach at the Lions. The residence on a 1303sq m corner parcel is designed in a U shape, focused around a swimming pool. A grand entertaining space with a wood fireplace, arched French windows and a chandelier overlook the gardens. The master suite includes a lounge and bar area, dressing room, ensuite and private deck. The home goes to auction on March 23 through Place Bulimba agents James Curtain and Warren Walsh. Voss, the 1996 Brownlow Medal winner, had a disappointing four years at the helm of Brisbane, then returned to AFL coaching as Port Adelaide’s midfield manager.
Lodge owners lop price to $1.35m
Sydney jewellery designer Rosemary Luker and her tree surgeon partner Russell Freeman have dropped the asking price of Mallacoota’s Karbeethong Lodge. The historic 1903 residence now comes with $1.35m-plus hopes — down from $1.8m — as the pair try to trigger a sale through Unique Estate’s Nicolette van Wijngaarden. The coastal retreat on an inlet halfway between Sydney and Melbourne cost the couple $620,000 in 2001. Set among fruit trees with access to a jetty, the 10-bed lodge sits on 4476sq m of waterfront land.
