Celebrity chef Shannon Bennett and actor wife Madeleine West have listed Barwon, their luxury South Yarra home.

Having spent around $17 million on a Toorak mansion, celebrity chef Shannon Bennett and actress wife Madeleine West have listed Barwon, their luxury South Yarra home. The couple bought the 1880s home for $4.8m in 2012. There are $7m to $7.7m price indications. Set on 1250 sqm, the four bedroom Victorian home is flanked by north-facing gardens and an outdoor entertainment area featuring a pool, spa and pool house with sauna. A self-contained studio sits in the grounds and there’s a 3000 bottle temperature controlled wine cellar. Ross Savas and Steven Rode are marketing the home, which had a Jackson Clement Burrows’ renovation and extension by the prior owner, Jarrod Sanfilippo’sNational Pacific Properties. The couple bought a four level Lansell Road home from Melbourne pub owner Mazen Tabet earlier this year..

Developer buys Refinery House

Kokoda property developer Mark Stevens has emerged as the $4.95m buyer of Refinery House, a riverfront home in Brisbane’s New Farm. Refinery House was the only stand-alone residence created during the 2004 transformation of the heritage-listed CSR sugar refinery. Set in the Cutters Landing precinct, the home last traded in 2004 when Margot McKinney, one of Australia’s best fine jewellery designers, and husband Peter Kedwell paid $2.5m to developers Mirvac. The home was advertised by LJ Hooker New Farm agent Brett Greensill as a potential rival to some of the finest brownstones of New York or London. Stevens founded the Brisbane-based Kokoda Property in the late 1990s. Featuring exposed brick, timber beams and cast-iron columns, the 600 sqm home in private landscaped gardens has four bedrooms and a climate controlled wine cellar.

Musk Farm sells pre-auction

Musk Farm, the much-admired central Victorian cottage masterpiece, has found its next owner in pre-auction negotiations. They paid $2.41m. The home was long associated with the late interior designer Stuart Rattle,who transformed it from a derelict garden overrun with blackberries on its 1.2 hectare schoolyard parcel. After his untimely death in 2013, it was sold by his executors for $1.59m in 2014. This time around, Paul Caine of Caine Real Estate had expected a sale at $2m

History in Yarralumla

Canberra’s Westridge House in Yarralumla, one of the capital’s oldest homes, has been listed for sale. Peter Blackshaw Real Estate agent Mario Sanfrancesco is marketing the home for a November 26 auction. The property dates to 1928, when Harold Desbrowe-Annear designed it for Charles Lane-Poole, founding principal of the Australian Forestry School. In 1975, the CSIRO became the new tenant of the community-zoned mansion. Westridge House had been in government hands until it sold for $3.2m in 2010. The 2ha grounds that back on to Royal Canberra Golf Course have been restored. A 50 sqm reception room with fireplace, solid timber floors and high ceilings open on to a terrace. There are five bedrooms, three bathrooms and two sitting rooms.
