Downside Up House down for sale

A triangular-themed home in Albert Park, dubbed the “Downside Up House”, is now up for sale. The Victorian, transformed by architect Weian Lim, director of architecture studio WALA, won the people’s choice award at the 2018 Architeam Awards. It is owned by Alec Griffin of Daylan Developments. The Agency’s Brendan Coburn and Michael Paproth are now asking $2.15m, after quoting between $2m and $2.2m for its recent auction. Set on a tight, triangular 130sq m site, the home has three bedrooms and a top-floor living area that features a balcony. Griffin paid $1.3m in 2016.

Pokies king seeks listing jackpot

Pokies king Malcolm Steinberg, founder of Leisure & Allied Industries, and wife Frances have listed their Mosman Park project. The original four-storey cliffside home on 1480sq m was constructed by its then structural engineer owner in the mid-1970s. It is being offered with plans for a luxury redesign by MAEK Residences. It is proposed as a major renovation within the existing home structure. Steinberg paid $2.85m in 1996. The plans see each floor embrace the natural surrounds. A grand spiral staircase and lift was installed. Inside its proposed neo-futurist home will be six bedrooms, five bathrooms and a five-car garage. Fine & Country agent Amy Gohil has the listing.

Holiday ‘Hayven’ on market

The Sunshine Coast holiday home of the late businessman Donald Hay and wife Maribi has hit the market. Queensland Sotheby’s agent Paul Arthur is marketing the property in conjunction with Adrian Reed at Reed & Co. Hay, who was the founder and executive chairman of manufacturing giant Hayco, dubbed the home Hayven, after they had architect Shane Thompson design the sprawling home over two decades ago. The design is based on traditional large Queensland homesteads while taking advantage of its water position. Set on a 2975sq m waterfront parcel on The Anchorage, Hayven has 13 bedrooms, including eight in the guest wing, 12 bathrooms, a media room, steam room and onsite caretaker quarters. It even features a nightclub. In the grounds is a 25m swimming pool, championship tennis court, and by the water are two jetties.
