Perth-bound Sam Mitchell, who will join the West Coast Eagles next year to see out his AFL playing career, and wife Lyndall have listed their family home in Hawthorn. But it is for rent rather than for sale. An application was promptly received on the four-bedroom home listed within two weeks of AFL’s trade week. Its asking rent was $1800 a week through Jellis Craig agent Harriet Griffiths. The couple paid $1.82 million for the 1940s home in 2009 and it has since been restored. Set in 841sq m of lush gardens, the home has an office and a gas heated swimming pool. Midfielder Mitchell played more than 300 games for Hawthorn over a 14-year career in which he won four premierships. He was a three-time
All-Australian and this week was named the 2012 Brownlow Medal co-winner.

Pfizer professor buys The Edge

The buyer of The Edge, the award-winning Port Douglas trophy home designed by Charles Wright, has emerged as Professor Charles Mackay. The chief scientific officer at Pfizer in Massachusetts paid $4.85m for the home after its price was adjusted to $5m through Barbara Wolveridge at Raine & Horne Port Douglas Mossman. Mackay retains a home in Sydney’s Vaucluse. The Edge initially came with $7.4m hopes upon its May 2015 listing. Floating off the side of Flagstaff Hill, it has a wet edge pool and is designed like an outdoor shell with a cantilevered roof. It won the far north Queensland Eddie Oribin Award for building of the year at the 2015 AIA architecture awards. It was built for the late industrialist Peter Graham and wife Claire.

Megan offloads Perth property

Model Megan Gale has signed off on the sale of one of the family’s properties in her home town Perth. Located just outside of Fremantle, the home has three bedrooms. It has been in the
co-ownership of Megan, mother May and late father Alan since 2005, when they paid $332,000. Todd Grierson at Yard Property secured the Palmyra sale at $515,000, with the paperwork showing her Richmond Tigers footballer boyfriend Shaun Hampson as the signature witness. Her mother still owns a home in Attadale that cost $1.1m in 2009. Gale sold her Palm Beach, Sydney property — which was in her mother’s name — for $3m this year, leaving her known ownership as her contemporary five- bedroom Aberfeldie home in Melbourne.

Ironman abode on market

Ironman legend Shannon Eckstein and wife, former model Belinda, have listed their Mermaid Waters, Gold Coast, home. They renovated the family entertainer after buying it for $702,000 in 2010. Harcourt Coastal agent Grant Stephens has it for auction today. Due to the birth of their second child, Blake, the couple have spent $860,000 on a waterfront building block at the new Mermaid Waters development, The Lakes. Shannon won a record eight Nutri-Grain Ironman crowns. Meanwhile, retired ironman Zane Holmes and wife Kai have sold their Tallebudgera Valley home. Built with eco-friendly design elements, the five bedroom home features bamboo flooring, a solar system and two 26,500-litre water tanks.
