Woodside gets nod for Senegal project
Woodside says it has secured exclusive exploitation rights from Senegal for a planned oil development.
Woodside Petroleum says it has secured exclusive exploitation rights from Senegal’s government for a planned oil development in the country.
In a statement, Woodside said the government approved an exploitation plan and granted exploitation authorisation to its Sangomar joint venture project.
Woodside said it is now waiting on the final signing of the host government agreement, which confirms financial details for the offshore project.
The first phase of the Sangomar development includes a stand-alone floating production, storage and offloading facility with 23 subsea wells. The facility is expected to have a production capacity of 100,000 barrels a day, with first oil produced in early 2023, Woodside said.
The project is designed to allow for it to be integrated into further developments, including gas exports to shore, Woodside said.
Woodside is the operator of the Sangomar development, partnering with a subsidiary of Cairn Energy, FAR Ltd, and the Senegal National Oil Co., or Petrosen.
