Supreme Court judge blocks Clive Palmer’s ‘scandalous’ evidence
Clive Palmer has been stopped from tendering an affidavit making wild allegations about the PM and others in court.
Clive Palmer has been blocked from tendering as Queensland Supreme Court evidence a “scandalous” affidavit making wild allegations about Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, the Palaszczuk government, and Queensland Nickel’s liquidators.
Queensland Supreme Court judge John Bond today denied Mr Palmer the right to rely on the conspiracy-filled affidavit and another containing a self-published book detailing his “achievements” as a federal MP.
Mr Palmer is representing himself — though is flanked by a team of lawyers representing his web of companies — and is defending against a bid by Queensland Nickel’s taxpayer-funded special purpose liquidators to freeze $200m worth of his assets.
This week, Mr Palmer and his allies filed several new, late affidavits in support of his defence and today pressed for Justice Bond to accept the documents as evidence in the case.
But Justice Bond denied the application, and said Mr Palmer’s material — particularly the self-published book — was “hard to take seriously”.
Barrister Tom Sullivan QC, for the special purpose liquidators PPB Advisory, applied to Justice Bond for the “scandalous” affidavit relating to Mr Turnbull, other levels of government, and both sets of liquidators to be removed from the public file.
Mr Palmer objected, but said the argument should not be had until next month, after he returned from a holiday with his wife.
“I’m going away with my wife and family until October 14,” he told the court.
Justice Bond agreed to temporarily seal the affidavit and remove it from the public file, until after Mr Palmer returns from holiday.
