Carrapateena copper-gold mine owner OZ Minerals has awarded Largs North business Energy Logistix an initial three-year freight services contract.

The contract, which could be extended for another two years, will add 10 new jobs to the 80-strong workforce of Energy Logistix, while creating further opportunities for other Upper Spencer Gulf businesses.

OZ Minerals’ Carrapateena mine general manager Myles Johnston said the agreement with Energy Logistix is for the provision of third-party logistics services.

“This includes the operation of freight consolidation facilities in Adelaide and Port Augusta, provision of line haul services to and from the Carrapateena mine site, and the global movement of freight between the Carrapateena mine and our suppliers,” Mr Johnston said.

“Energy Logistix demonstrated a similar value orientation and their commitment to working together towards our emissions reduction aspirations.

“As Energy Logistix is a local supplier, it also means more potential work opportunities for businesses in the Upper Spencer Gulf, as well as local apprenticeship opportunities.

“Max Cranes has since been engaged to provide a freight insertion point in Port Augusta.”

Energy Logistix managing director Shaun Williamson said the contract fitted in with the group’s primary goal “to build a sustainable and generational business”.

“We see this as a long-term partnership that both parties will mutually benefit from as will our people, partners and suppliers,” Mr Williamson said.

“The relationship with OZ Minerals will see Energy Logistix continue to source in excess of 95 per cent of our total spend with local South Australian businesses.

“We bring together the best skilled people, leading technology and world-class, Australian made vehicles united to create a formidable assurance of safety and on-time delivery.”

Energy Logistix has worked with industrial mining and energy giants such as Schlumberger Australia, Santos, BHP and Halliburton.

Energy Logistix uses remote-monitoring technology to check movement of trucks and tracks driver fatigue as well as providing safe working environments for its crew on the road.
