Clive Palmer threatens Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk with legal action
Clive Palmer threatened Qld’s premier with legal action over comments about his Rockhampton mine plan.
Clive Palmer is threatening legal action against Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk over comments she made about his proposed new coal mine. Mr Palmer is trying to get an open-cut mine approved for a cattle station northwest of Rockhampton, under his company Styx Coal.
Creditors for Queensland Nickel had tried to sell the station to help pay down $300 million worth of debt caused by the collapse of the Townsville refinery last year, which also resulted in hundreds of job losses.
However, they were prevented from doing so because Mr Palmer’s company held a mining lease on the property, meaning any sale would come with conditions.
Ms Palasczuk last week blasted Mr Palmer for pursuing a mine mining project before the Queensland Nickel situation had been finalised.
“The mess that Clive Palmer left Queensland Nickel in Townsville is disgraceful,” she said.
“Fundamentally, he should be focused on that first and foremost before he focuses on anything else.”
Mr Palmer on Monday released a statement threatening the premier with legal action for the comments, saying Ms Palaszczuk was “biased against him.” “For the premier to attack new projects and halt economic growth and jobs creation is a disgrace,” Mr Palmer said.
“She won’t meet with me but continues to defame me. I’m no longer in politics and I’m entitled to my good name and reputation and I will defend that.”
