Flight Centre hails tech buy
Flight Centre managing director Graham Turner has talked up his acquisition of tech company Umapped.
Flight Centre managing director Graham Turner said the acquisition of Toronto-based technology company Umapped would help Australia’s largest travel agency offer more services to customers and fast-track its digital transformation.
The purchase price of Umapped, which provides travel documentation, communication and itinerary management software to the travel industry, was described as “immaterial” by Mr Turner yesterday in an announcement to the Australian Securities Exchange.
“It’s more than a start-up — it’s a reasonably well-developed product,” he told The Weekend Australian.
“We came across the people there — we have a great relationship with them. We know this is the sort of product our customers would like.”
However, Mr Turner said the digital transformation of Flight Centre would take a while.
Flight Centre was always looking at ways to improve customer service, Mr Turner said, hinting at more acquisitions.
“We look at things that can enhance what we can give to our customers,’’ he said.
The acquisition will help Flight Centre’s consultants provide upgraded documentation, better templates and real-time communication with customers.
Flight Centre hopes to deploy Umapped software in several countries within a year.
Umapped was founded in 2012
