Gold price hits fresh 2-yr high
ASX-listed gold miners have jumped as the yellow metal hit a fresh two-year high in Asian trade.
Gold stocks have spiked as the precious metal hit a fresh two-year high in Asian trade, continuing its rally since the UK’s Brexit vote.
Spot gold hit an intraday high of $US1,371.23 per ounce, before edging down to $US1,368.22 per ounce.
And ASX-listed gold mining stocks were swept up in the flight from risk, with Newcrest Mining closing 3.18 per cent stronger at $25.92. Regis Resources spiked 4.59 per cent to $3.87, while OceanaGold jumped 4.23 per cent to $5.67.
It came amid a broader market slump, with the the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index slipping 0.58 per cent, as investors looked for safety as fallout continued from Britain’s vote to leave the European Union.
Low bond yields have also made gold more attractive to investors.
