Scott Morrison gives Gladys Liu the green light

Team Morrison has given Gladys Liu the green light to get back on the speaking circuit.

Margin Call has confirmed that Liu, the much discussed new Liberal member for Chisholm, will tonight speak at the Victorian branch of the Hong Kong-Australia Business Association.

Liu, who was born in Hong Kong in 1964, has previously spoken out in support of the city’s anti-government protestors, praising their “passion and commitment to democracy”.

Her address at the association’s awards night coincides with the Thursday night keynote Prime Minister Scott Morrison will give at Sir Frank Lowy’s foreign policy institute in Sydney.

We have confirmed that, unlike her now infamous interview with Andrew Bolt , this business association appearance has been cleared by senior members of the government.

It comes weeks after Liu was scheduled to speak at the Sydney Institute about how she won the culturally diverse east Melbourne seat of Chisholm.

That event at Gerard Henderson’s shop was squashed by higher powers in the Morrison government, who are now helping the popular new member manger her diary.

Margin Call can also reveal former state MP Graham Watt - who some readers might remember for his controversial decision to sit as his Victorian state parliamentary colleagues gave a standing ovation to Rosie Batty - will soon be liberated from Liu’s office, where he has been a staffer.

“He won’t be going back to Canberra,” someone close to the process informed us.

Interviews for the refreshed Team Gladys are currently underway and the new recruits should be in place for parliament’s return on October 14.

Life won’t be dull for them.
