NAB’s Andrew Hagger to front banking royal commission
Kenneth Hayne’s royal commission is not done with Andrew Thorburn’s National Australia Bank.
Incredibly, after almost four days of questioning, the commission has summoned Thorburn’s direct report Andrew Hagger to front up on Monday.
There goes Hagger’s weekend
The commission — including counsel assisting Michael “Babyface” Hodge and Hayne himself — were furious at times this week as NAB stonewalled its inquiry into an alleged fees-for-no-service rort in the bank’s superannuation business.
The scandal is the subject of an ongoing investigation by James Shipton’s corporate cop ASIC over 100 potentially criminal breaches of the law.
Thorburn surprised some this week by suggesting it was not a big deal.
To go by Hagger’s summoning, it seems the commission has a different opinion.
It will be the second appearance of Hagger, NAB’s piano-loving wealth boss, at the commission.
The $3.5 million man — who is said to have ambitions to take over the bank from the expansively pinstriped Thorburn — was a witness in the wealth round in April.
His appearance is best remembered for his extravagant pocket squares, a fashion choice that apparently impressed IOOF’s managing director Chris Kelaher.
What to wear on Monday?
