Former NAB staffer’s coastal life on bail

After a few career setbacks, things have been falling the way of Andrew Thorburn’s former chief of staff Rosemary Rogers.

Sure, the NSW Police have made 56 charges against the former NAB office assistant over her alleged involvement in a multimillion-dollar fraud ring run, unbeknown to Thorburn, out of his CEO’s office.

And her almost 20 year career at the Melbourne-headquartered bank has come to an end.

But Rogers — who during her time at the big four assembled a $6.2 million property portfolio, flotilla of speed boats and travelled the world in style — is doing bail in style.

This morning a magistrate in Sydney’s local court further relaxed Rogers’s bail arrangements to include a second Victorian holiday spot — although only after a minor scuffle over her non-attendance in the Downing Centre.

“Why is she not here?” asked the magistrate.

Rogers lawyer explained that she had been excused from attending previous sessions.

“She wasn’t excused today,” replied the magistrate, grumpily.

Despite the no-show, Rogers got her way.

The magistrate granted her request to only sign in every second day at the Torquay police station, instead of the previous daily sign in arrangement.

Rogers — who last month offloaded her trophy home in Melbourne port suburb Williamstown for $3.825m and has been living near Torquay at her Bellbrae retreat, near Bell’s Beach — had been finding the daily sign in bothersome.

Sometimes, said her lawyer, no one was at the station.

The magistrate has also allowed Rogers to stay, once a month, at her unwell father-in-law’s place at Rosebud, which neighbours Sorrento on the picturesque Mornington Peninsula.

The case returns to court in late August. Rogers has been excused from appearing.
