Presidents laud alma mater
ALMOST 40 former presidents of the University of NSW Law Students Society attended an alumni dinner this week at NSW Parliament House.
ALMOST 40 former presidents of the University of NSW Law Students Society, including The Australian’s chief executive Nicholas Gray, attended an alumni dinner this week at NSW Parliament House.
The dinner was hosted by 1987 president, NSW Family Services Minister Gabrielle Upton and David Dixon, who is dean of law at the university.
Mr Gray, who was president of the society in 1996, said he was thrilled to reconnect with fellow presidents from his era and meet those from other eras. “The night reinforced to me the diverse career options available to law graduates — I remember my time at UNSW very fondly and am grateful for the start it gave me,” Mr Gray said.
He was one of three former presidents of the Law Students Society who addressed the gathering. The others were Rod Cunich, now a partner at Slater and Gordon, who was president in 1976 and 1977; and Shemara Wikramanayake, who is head of funds management for Macquarie Group, and was president of the society in 1984.
