Disgraced celebrity financial planner Sam Henderson appeared in NSW District Court to be sentenced over three charges relating to his misrepresentation of his qualifications for seven years.

The conviction would mark the end of a saga that saw Henderson fall from writing newspaper columns and appearing on TV to being fined $50,000 and barred from providing financial advice.

No sentencing was handed down in court, with Magistrate Jennifer Atkinson leaving her remarks for October 20 after hearing from Henderson’s lawyers and the prosecution.

Henderson had already entered a plea of guilty to breaching the Corporations Act in 2014 and 2016 by giving at least two clients a financial services guide that suggested he had a Masters of Commerce (financial planning) when he did not.

Corporate regulator ASIC alleged that Henderson stated he held a Master of Commerce in a series of PowerPoint presentations, on his website and in brochures, between 2010 and 2017.

Before his fall from grace on the back of allegations aired at the royal commission into financial misconduct, Henderson was the doyen of the media.

He was once a high-flyer of Sydney’s money management scene, appearing regularly in the Nine newspapers The Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian Financial Review, on the Today Show on Nine’s television station, as well as spots on Sky Business.
