Long-serving ANZ chief economist Warren Hogan will depart the bank, with the group to be begin a search for a permanent replacement.

Mr Hogan said the time was right to pursue other opportunities and spend more time with his young family.

Richard Yetsenga will take on the position of acting chief economist, reporting to acting managing director of ANZ’s markets division, Shayne Collins.

“We are fortunate to have an economist with Richard’s experience in financial markets able to step in while we search for a permanent replacement,” Mr Collins said.

Over 10 years Mr Hogan has established himself as one of Australia’s leading economic commentators and has built a world-class team providing customers with economic insights throughout the region, he added.

Mr Yetsenga joined ANZ in 2011 and was most recently global head of Financial Markets Research, responsible for economic research across the group’s financial markets products.

He has previously held economic research roles at HSBC, Deutsche Bank and with the Australian government.

Mr Yetsenga’s appointment is effective immediately.
