Investment bank UBS has been hired to lead a review of Incitec Pivot’s fertiliser business.

The company announced the review today, saying attractive growth opportunities existed for the business and now was the logical time to assess its future.

The review will consider various options including a sale or a demerger.

Chief executive Jeanne Johns said under the leadership of Stephan Titze, Incitec Pivot Fertilisers has advanced strategic priorities and growth opportunities.

Last year, the business dispatched 2.2 million metric tonnes to the domestic market for agriculture.

Speculation has been mounting about the division for some time, with some questioning whether Wesfarmers would be the logical buyer.
